09. - 11.02.2020: San Cipriano to Lago Calima

The weather cleared up dramatically so we had a beautiful day for our tour. We bought tickets at a little kiosk ($4 per person), walked over a wobbly footbridge to the other side of the river and, after a short wait, got onto a moped train. It's basically a moped that runs along one railway track with two benches attached. The longest bench attached to the side of the moped runs on wheels along the other track.

Certainly a first for us!! The ride was quite bumpy but it only lasted about 25 minutes to go through the jungle and through two tunnels to get to the entrance to a park. There we paid a small fee of approx. 70 US cents each and went for a two hour walk. The walk is mainly along the former railway line and it was so hot and humid we ended up going for a much needed cool down swim at a waterfall. We hadn't expected to go swimming so we just went in our underwear!! Don't worry there was no one else around!! Plus we dried off pretty quickly afterwards.

On our walk back we saw a colourful toucan so Kirsten the photographer was really happy. The moped train was quite full on the way back - I got long hair flying in my face from the woman sitting in front of me - and we were sitting so close together I got my boobs squashed!! (At the time of writing this we are well into the second wave of the Corona virus pandemic and sitting this close to strangers is unthinkable!)

We really enjoyed our time here and then drove out, back up the extremely steep hill and onto the tunnel road again. There weren't as many tunnels for us on our side of the road for the return journey - only five. We turned off along a very narrow road to park on the northern shore of Lago Calima. We stayed for two nights and went for walks by the lake.

Brilliant witches ride through the jungle.
