From Las Loicas we drive via Malargüe to the famous ski resort of Las Leñas - a nice side track with a few sightseeing spots. Afterwards we drive north on the also famous Ruta 40 towards Mendoza. Just before the town we head west on Ruta 7 and spend a few relaxing days at the Embalse Potrerillos before continuing to the highest mountain in South America - Aconcagua - where we go on a hike on Christmas Eve. After the fabulous hike we drive back to Uspallata for a rather nasty Christmas dinner and then north along a rough dirt road to the small town of Barreal where we find a great spot along the river. Unfortunately Christmas ends with a rather sleepless night!
