From Puerto Varas we take a beautiful drive south around the Bay of Puerto Montt to the little ferry port of Caleta La Arena - a tiny and unexpected gem on the famous Carretera Austral. Afterwards we make our way through the rough looking city of Puerto Montt and all the way across to the Pacific Ocean to Carelmapu before going on a bumpy ferry crossing in Maullín. On our way back to Puerto Varas we check out the Swiss-German lake town of Frutillar Bajo and then drive the spectacular Paso Cardenal Antonio Samoré back into Argentina.
