Paso San Francisco has a lot to offer. One of the adventures is a wonderful hike into the narrow Cañon del Indio. Our plan is to spend a week up in high altitude to acclimatize before crossing over the 4,725 metre high pass. We have lots of time on our hand anyway because we don't want to get to Chile too soon and so we drive all the way up to the shelter No. 4 to take a look and check out Laguna Cortaderas on the way back down.
One of the side tracks on the Paso San Francisco is the unpaved road up to the Balcón del Pissis - a viewpoint at 4,550 metres above sea level to see the second highest volcano in the world - Volcán Pisses. The road is not recommended for 2WD vehicles and can be very tough to drive for even 4WD vehicles in bad weather conditions. But the weather forecast is looking good and so we decide to try it.
